This critical infrastructure upgrade replaced the aging 1958 Mile Long Bridge as part of the Central Tri-State (I‑294) Tollway reconstruction.
The project delivered two parallel, 4,800‑foot-long bridge structures, each carrying five lanes plus a flex lane per direction. The bridge’s new design reduced piers from 53 to 26 per structure by using longer spans, minimizing environmental and traffic disruption. Our team completed installation of over 200 pre-cast and steel girders over complex obstacles like waterways, rail yards, and roadways. The project earned the ACEC National Recognition Award and was named Roads & Bridges’ No. 1 Bridge Project in North America for 2023.
