Metropolitan Steel played a critical role in the successful delivery of Amazon’s 3.5 million square foot AR Sort Fulfillment Center in Markham, IL—one of the largest distribution hubs in the region.
As the structural steel erector, Metropolitan Steel set more than 6,500 tons of structural steel, erecting the full steel frame for this five-story, high-capacity automated sort center. Our team was responsible for the safe, efficient, and precisely sequenced installation of primary and secondary steel framing—supporting everything from the slab-on-metal deck to the complex mechanical coordination zones required by Amazon’s robotics systems. We worked in close coordination with multiple trades to meet strict tolerances and aggressive sequencing demands, ensuring the facility could accept the racking, conveyor, and automation infrastructure without delays. Despite a tight construction window, we completed our steel erection scope ahead of schedule—helping maintain the project’s fast-track delivery goals. Steel erection involved hundreds of crane picks, high-reach installation, and multi-crew staging to stay ahead of interior build-out activities. With just-in-time deliveries and a constantly moving jobsite, our field team managed steel placement with minimal laydown and zero impact on neighboring operations.
If you have work that demands experience, precision, and grit—we’re ready to take it on.
